Diet and Nutrition
This is a four unit course. The importance of proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle will be reviewed as we examine various elements of popular diets. Students will access online resources to construct a lesson plan relating to this topic. A final project is due the last week of class.
Stages of Aging
This is a four unit course that surveys the effects of aging on specific body systems as they relate to homeostasis. Cellular changes as well as social views that effect longevity and quality of life will be examined. Students will access online resources to develop a lesson plan relating to the biological or sociological aspects of this topic. Upon completion of this course, each student will have a portfolio of website links and lessons to use in the classroom. A final project is due the last week of class.
Genetics Case Studies for Educators
This is a four unit course designed to allow you to have the opportunity to review and examine common genetic disorders, review scientific literature, and incorporate your findings into an essay for immediate use in your work. We will discuss modes of inheritance, symptoms, and proposed treatments. A final project is due the last week of class.
Women in Science
This is a four unit course. It is not limited to women, nor to scientists; it is designed to survey a sampling of influential women in science and discuss their pioneering studies from the 17th-20th centuries. This is a great class for expanding your appreciation of the progression of scientific discovery. A final project is due the last week of class.
Current Topics in Science for Educators
This is a four unit course. This course is not limited to science teachers, but you will be expected to research topics in scientific journals so a certain amount of scientific knowledge and interest is necessary. In this class you will review scientific literature for a research project and incorporate that information into a lesson plan ready for use in the classroom. This is a great way to learn about new methods and research going on in today’s laboratories while earning credit! A final project is due the last week of class.

Website Building
This course is designed for classroom teachers, para-educators, social work professionals and college students. Students will explore the advantages of developing and managing personal and career websites. Two units of study will be devoted to developing the “personal website” and two units will be devoted to developing the “career” website. This course will provide information for developing and managing personal and career websites.
Personal Styles; “Who am I?”
This course is designed for classroom teachers, para-educators, social work professionals and college students. Students will explore their general characteristics in areas of learning, leadership, teamwork, and career will be addressed in the four units of the course. This course will provide information for recognizing and managing the student’s individual style in each area.
“Bullying” Characteristics and Solutions
This course is designed for classroom teachers, para-educators, social work professionals and college students. The general characteristics of “bullying” will be addressed in the first unit of the course. Units two, three and four will each cover different environments where “bullying” may develop. This course will provide information for recognizing and managing “bullying” in various environments.
“Generations in the Workplace; Characteristics and Strategies for Communication”
This course is designed for classroom teachers, para-educators, social work professionals and college students. The general characteristics of “members of the different generations” will be addressed in the first unit of the course. Units two, three and four will each cover different situations where “the generations” are required to communicate and work together and present strategies for successfully collaboration.
